The Volunteers

YAY’s Youth Volunteers range from age 16-29. Police Officers from both our Toronto and York Region partnership are also part of our core Volunteers. Through our Tri-Mentoring program we encourage Professionals to share their expertise.

YAY’s recruitment of Youth Volunteers is conducted in high schools, colleges and universities, community groups and in the workplace.

YAY encourages young adults from all cultures and diverse backgrounds to become peer mentors. In sharing their life experiences Volunteers recognize the importance of commitment to others, the value of community involvement and the positive impact that individuals can have on the world around them.

YAY Youth Volunteers attend mandatory workshops to identify and deal with issues on cultural diversity, mentoring, child management and child abuse awareness. Volunteers are screened to assess their commitment, skills and level of responsibility. Screening includes personal references, police records check and a home visit.

YAY staff supports are available 24/7 for Volunteers. Weekly events provide an opportunity for both. Volunteers and children to interact and share in fun activities. In addition our Volunteers are encouraged to apply for a scholarship and participate in our Tri- Mentoring Program.
